A brand new, state-of-the-art eye hospital has opened its doors in Worcester, welcoming NHS patients from across Herefordshire and Worcestershire who require cataract surgery and other eye health services to improve their vision.
The new clinic, conveniently located just off the M5 on Bridgewater Road, is part of SpaMedica, one of the country’s leading providers of NHS eye services.
Specialising in cataract surgery and YAG capsulotomy, the hospital will help reduce waiting times, enabling patients to access high quality treatment and care in just four to eight weeks, compared to a national target of 18 weeks.
As well as providing a comfortable, welcoming environment, the Worcester clinic – one of over 50 SpaMedica hospitals across the UK – can offer a free door-to-door transport service for patients who find it difficult to travel.
NHS patients in England who have been referred for cataract surgery can choose which hospital they are treated at and can discuss the best options for their needs with their optician or GP.
Since launching 15 years ago, SpaMedica has earned an unrivalled reputation for exceptional care.
More than 16,000 patients have given SpaMedica a five-star rating on the NHS UK website, and its hospitals have some of the lowest complication rates nationally.
In addition, 35 SpaMedica sites have been inspected by industry regulator the Care Quality Commission (CQC), with 13 clinics being rated as ‘Outstanding’ and 22 classed as ‘Good’.
Hospital manager Samantha Smith said: “It’s fantastic to open our doors in Worcester and welcome patients from across the region. The hospital is in a great location, just a short hop off the M5, making it convenient for the wider West Midlands area – and we offer a free transport service for those who need it, too.
“Many patients are unaware they have the right to choose where they go for treatment – they can simply speak to their local optician or GP to request a referral to us. At SpaMedica, we’re able to offer appointments in just four to eight weeks, and our dedicated team of skilled surgeons and healthcare professionals are ready to provide personalised care and deliver truly life-changing surgery. It’s not ‘just’ about improving vision – we’re committed to helping patients get back their independence and quality of life as quickly as possible.”
