A new, state-of-the-art eye hospital has opened in Telford, providing cataract surgery and YAG laser capsulotomy to local NHS patients.
SpaMedica – one of the country’s leading providers of NHS eye health services – is welcoming new patients to the site at Titan House on Euston Park, helping to cut waiting times for those requiring treatment to improve their vision. The new hospital will offer appointments to patients in just two to four weeks, compared to a national target of 18 weeks.
Providing a comfortable, welcoming environment, the site will also offer a free transport service to and from the hospital, for patients who may find it difficult to travel.
Telford is the 49th SpaMedica site in the UK. Earlier this year, SpaMedica’s hospitals in Poole and Gloucester were described as “an exemplar of best practice which others can, and should, learn from” by the head of hospital inspection at the Care Quality Commission, the industry regulator.
To date, 32 SpaMedica hospitals have been inspected by the CQC – 12 (37.5%) have received an ‘Outstanding’ rating, with 20 (62.5%) achieving a ‘Good’ rating.
SpaMedica’s hospitals have some of the lowest complication rates nationally, with procedures carried out by highly experienced consultant surgeons.
SpaMedica Telford’s hospital manager, Debbie Allmark, said: “Our team of skilled surgeons and healthcare professionals are all set to deliver the best possible care to patients in Telford and the surrounding areas. We know the enormous difference these procedures can make, restoring patients’ independence and helping them get back to the hobbies, activities and lives they love.
“We’re delighted to be working in partnership with the NHS to reduce local waiting lists and ensure patients who need cataract surgery or YAG laser capsulotomy can easily access high-quality treatment, within a much shorter than average timeframe.”
NHS patients who have been diagnosed with cataracts or posterior capsule opacification can ask for a referral to SpaMedica Telford through their local optician or GP.
