How to find us

Our clinic is located in central Carlisle, near Cumberland Infirmary. If you are exiting the motorway at Junction 44, go on the bypass, following signs for Cumberland Infirmary.

Our clinic is located two streets down from the Infirmary on Port Road, situated on the right-hand side of the road.

If you’re travelling from the city centre, travel west past the castle, following the signs for Cumberland Infirmary, and take the last exit at the roundabout at Caldewgate onto Newtown Road. Then take the first right onto Port Road and our clinic is further up the
road on the right-hand side.

Free patient parking is provided outside the building. SpaMedica is located on the third floor.

One of the closest stops to SpaMedica Carlisle is the McVitie’s Bus Stop. The number 61 bus to Morton Park stops here, which is a 9-minute walk to SpaMedica. After getting off at this stop, walk further down the road, taking the second exit at the roundabout. Then take the next right and follow the road until SpaMedica appears on your right-hand side.

The closest train station to our clinic is the Carlisle Railway Station, located on Court Square. The distance from the station to the hospital is approximately 1.5 miles.

If you live in England, all you need to do is let your optician or GP know which healthcare provider and hospital location you would like to have your cataract treatment at, and they’ll send a referral to your chosen provider. You should hear back from your provider within two to three weeks following your referral. If you haven’t heard anything after this point, we recommend contacting the person who referred you—this will be your optician or GP—to check on the status of your referral.

Giving you local access to the highest standards of care. With over 61 hospitals nationwide, all rated 'Good' or 'Outstanding' by the Care Quality Commission, SpaMedica is the largest independent provider of NHS cataract treatment in the UK. Our experts will ensure you feel comfortable and confident from diagnosis to recovery. Having partnered with the NHS for over 15 years, we proudly support thousands of patients every month with ophthalmic conditions.

The only suitable treatment for cataracts is surgery. It is one of the safest surgeries you can have and is also the most common operation performed in the UK today, taking up to only 20 minutes for routine cases. The cloudy lens is removed and replaced with an artificial lens (implant). This is normally done under a local anaesthetic using eye drops to numb the eye.

patient testimonial

Keith Daly, SpaMedica Carlisle Patient

I went there for cataract removal. All the staff were efficient and helpful, the equipment is modern, and the whole place is very clean and comfortable. The surgeon was very friendly and considerate, and the whole experience was as pleasant as having a cataract removed could be!

No need to be nervous about having a procedure at this clinic—highly recommended, and many thanks.
