How to find us
Our SpaMedica clinic is based on the 5th floor of Whelmar House on Southway. Southway is a one-way road so you need to approach the car park from Northway and round the one-way system onto Southway and the car park is located after the Co-operative building on the right. SpaMedica parking spaces are clearly marked for patient parking.
Skelmersdale bus station is located on Northway by the Concourse Shopping Centre. Buses to and from all locations can be accessed from the bus station. The eye clinic is a 5-10 minute walk from there via a pedestrian walk way across from the shopping centre to Whelmar House. To plan your journey – click here - enter your start location or postcode and enter WN8 6NN as the destination postcode and choose the date and time of travel. This will give you directions and the bus number/s and show how long your journey will take.
If you live in England, all you need to do is let your optician or GP know which healthcare provider and hospital location you would like to have your cataract treatment at, and they’ll send a referral to your chosen provider. You should hear back from your provider within two to three weeks following your referral. If you haven’t heard anything after this point, we recommend contacting the person who referred you—this will be your optician or GP—to check on the status of your referral.

The only suitable treatment for cataracts is surgery. It is one of the safest surgeries you can have and is also the most common operation performed in the UK today, taking up to only 20 minutes for routine cases. The cloudy lens is removed and replaced with an artificial lens (implant). This is normally done under a local anaesthetic using eye drops to numb the eye.
