Felipe is a consultant ophthalmic and vitreoretinal surgeon and the Director of the Acute Ophthalmic Services at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.
Felipe graduated from Madrid Complutense University in Spain and has since spent time training in ophthalmology in the West Midlands and Northwest of England. He is a scientific reviewer for the Cochrane Eyes and Vision Group, as well as several international journals. He has a long history of research and lecturing and has published many different scientific papers, giving more than 30 presentations at home and abroad.
Felipe specialises in surgery and disorders that affect the back segment of the eye. His areas of expertise focus on retinal surgery, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, complex cataract surgery and acute/urgent ophthalmic diseases.
The Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth) National Ophthalmology Database (NOD) National Cataract Audit collects data on cataract surgeries performed in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Guernsey. The audit is an important quality assurance measure of cataract-removal surgical procedures undertaken in the NHS.
