SpaMedica, one of the country’s leading providers of NHS eye health services, is welcoming local NHS patients to its brand-new facility in North Tyneside. Located on Cobalt Business Park on Silver Fox Way, SpaMedica North Tyneside will be the company’s landmark 50th hospital.
The new, state-of-the-art eye hospital will provide cataract surgery and YAG laser capsulotomy to local NHS patients, helping to cut waiting times for those requiring treatment to improve their vision. Patients will be offered appointments in just two to four weeks, compared to a national target of 18 weeks.
The company’s 50th hospital launch comes after its recent 15-year anniversary celebrations. Since opening its first hospital in Manchester in 2008, SpaMedica has successfully treated thousands of NHS patients, and now has hospitals across most regions of the UK.
The company currently employs more than 1,700 people and its hospitals have some of the lowest complication rates nationally. To date, of the 32 SpaMedica hospitals that have been inspected by industry regulator the Care Quality Commission (CQC) – 12 have received an ‘Outstanding’ rating, with 20 achieving a ‘Good’ rating.
Providing a comfortable, welcoming environment and exceptional patient care, SpaMedica North Tyneside will offer a free transport service to and from the hospital, for those who may find it difficult to travel. NHS patients who have been diagnosed with cataracts or posterior capsule opacification can ask for a referral to the hospital through their local optician or GP.
SpaMedica North Tyneside’s hospital manager, Anish Patel, said: “We’re very proud to be the company’s 50th hospital. Our team of skilled surgeons and healthcare professionals are looking forward to delivering the best possible care to patients in North Tyneside and the surrounding areas. Cataract surgery can make such a huge difference to patients’ lives, restoring their independence and helping them get back to the hobbies they love.
“We’re working in partnership with the NHS to reduce local waiting lists, ensuring that patients who need cataract surgery or YAG laser capsulotomy can easily access high-quality treatment, within a much shorter than average timeframe.”
Richard Woodward, SpaMedica’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “We’re delighted to be opening our 50th hospital in North Tyneside. It’s a very exciting time for the company as we also recently celebrated our 15-year anniversary. Both milestones are testament to our teams’ commitment to patient care and their dedication and passion in helping to push industry standards forward.
“SpaMedica was created to make a difference to the lives of patients requiring high-quality eyecare – our founder’s mission was to build a company which treats patients in the same way as you would treat your family, and that belief still stands today. We’re very proud of our excellent outcomes and consistently positive feedback, with more than 13,000 five-star ratings on NHS UK. We wish Anish and his team well as they deliver care of the highest quality to patients across North Tyneside.”
